What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts based on the understanding that good health depends on a normally functionally nervous system. Just as the skull protects the brain, the spinal cord is covered by 24 moving vertebrae. When these bones lose their normal motion, they can irritate the nerves and disrupt the function of the tissues and organs they control. As we all know, regardless of which type of doctor you consult, only the body can heal itself. A doctor of chiropractic uses the science of locating areas of spinal malfunction and the ability of correcting them to allow the body to heal itself.

The word “chiropractic” comes from the Greek word “chiropraktikos” meaning “effective treatment by hand”. Chiropractic addresses the prevention of disease not with the use of drugs or chemicals, but by locating and adjusting a musculoskeletal area of the body that is functioning improperly.
